I’ve been blacking out a lot lately.

Sometimes I don’t wake up where I was when I passed out.

And there’s this cough. It feels like something is wrong inside my chest.

Sometimes I taste copper in the back of my mouth.

I’m tasting it now, I realize, as my eyes open with my vision out of focus.

For the moment the world is a smear of greens and browns.

I blink furiously and find I’m laying on the ground in the woods.

He’s here. Looking down at me without eyes.

Familiar cold grips my chest.

I start to cough.
